Dental Services

The WVCHIP Benefit Plan covers a full range of dental services. Preventive Services are covered for your children and there are no copays.  Your children can have a dental screening to make sure they are "school-ready".  They can see a dentist every six months for a dental exam, which includes cleaning, fluoride treatments, and bitewings (partial mouth x-rays to check for decay).  Full mouth x-rays are covered every 36 months.

New CHIP Policy Helps Babies Get Early Oral Health Care at the Doctor's Office

Effective October 1, 2011, the West Virginia Children's Health Insurance Program (WVCHIP) began reimbursing primary care providers who apply fluoride varnish to children from their 1st tooth erruption, ages to under 36 months (3 years).  The application of the fluoride varnish should include education and counseling with the child's caregiver.  Providers must have completed a certified training course from the WVU School of Dentistry prior to performing and billing for these services.  WVCHIP allows coverage for two fluoride varnish applications per year (one every six months).  The first application must be provided and billed in conjunction with a comprehensive well-child exam.  For more information, please refer to the Medical Infant/Child Health Program Fluoride Varnish by Primary Care Practioners WVCHIP Coverage Policy found at our website at www.chip.wv.gov.
