"Choosing Wisely" Helps patients and their doctors to choose care that is truly necessary and which helps keep the patients from harm.
Patients sometimes ask for tests and treatments that are not necessarily in their best interest. Sometimes the overuse of medical tests and procedures provide little benefit and in some cases cause harm.
The goal of the ConsumerHealthChoices, Choosing Wisely program, is to help patients, and doctors think about the outcomes of the tests, before they are given to make sure the best healthcare choices are made.
Consumer Reports have more than 70 "Choosing Wisely" brochures available at their website:
http://consumerhealthchoices.org/campaigns/choosing-wisely. These brochures can help educate patients so they feel more comfortable asking questions about procedures, or specific medicines.
